Here’s the latest update on the shooting that occurred Thursday morning inside the parking garage at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. According to Troy police, the incident appears to be isolated and involved two employees. The suspect has since been taken into custody.

Shelby Township police confirmed that the suspect in the hospital shooting is now in custody. Authorities reported that they arrived at a home in Macomb Township, contacted the suspect by phone, and he subsequently surrendered without incident.

Lt. Ben Hancock of the Troy Police Department provided details about the shooting, which took place in the hospital’s parking garage around 7:08 a.m. Hancock stated that one employee fired five shots at another employee. The victim, a 25-year-old man from Troy, was struck twice in the arm and is currently in stable condition.

The suspect, who was initially at large, is no longer believed to be in the hospital area. While the hospital remains on lockdown as law enforcement conducts a thorough search, officials expect to lift the lockdown soon. Police are using drones, K9 units, and other resources to ensure the area is secure.

Hancock confirmed that authorities have identified the suspect but are not releasing their name to the public at this time. Further updates are expected later in the day.

Hospital workers shared their experiences during the chaotic morning. One employee said, “All of a sudden, I just heard a bunch of sirens and police cars. Another employee told me to stay in my car. I was scared.”

Corewell Health released a statement regarding the incident: “We are working with local law enforcement. Out of an abundance of caution, the hospital is on lockdown. One victim is in the emergency department receiving medical treatment. Patients with scheduled services should not come to the hospital at this time. They may contact the department where their service was scheduled directly. No further information is available at this time.”
