On March 29, 2025, a partial solar eclipse will occur. This happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, partially blocking the Sun's light. Parts of the Northern Hemisphere will experience this event. It's important to note that the Moon's central shadow will miss Earth, meaning a total solar eclipse won't be visible from anywhere. To safely view this event, everyone must use proper eye protection or indirect viewing methods. (More safety information is provided below.)

What Will Be Visible

Viewers in portions of North America, Europe, Africa, northern Asia, small areas of South America, and throughout Greenland and Iceland, as well as much of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, will be able to see a partial solar eclipse.

In much of the Americas, including the northeastern United States, the partial solar eclipse will be in progress as the sun rises. The eclipse will begin in mid-to-late morning in western Europe and northwestern Africa. For those in eastern Europe and northern Asia, the eclipse will mostly occur in the afternoon or early evening.

This eclipse will be a partial solar eclipse for all locations within the Moon's shadow.

  • The curved, yellow lines on the map indicate the percentage of the Sun that will be covered by the Moon at the time of maximum eclipse for those locations.

  • The green lines show when the maximum eclipse will take place along those lines.

  • Times are given in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). To convert to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), subtract 4 hours from the UTC time. For example, 10:30 UTC is 6:30 a.m. EDT.

  • The orange loops represent sunrise and sunset lines. The loop on the western (left) side shows where the eclipse ends at sunrise (left half) and where it begins at sunrise (right half). Similarly, on the eastern loop, the left side indicates where the eclipse ends at sunset, and the right half shows where the eclipse begins at sunset. The blue lines mark where the maximum eclipse occurs at sunrise or sunset.
